I am just going to jump right in and see what you guys think of this idea I have.

Have a desktop which will need an upgrade eventually but still beasts most any game I throw @ it.

Gaming Rig:
i7 3770k @ 4.5ghz ( Hyper 212 Evo cooler)
Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H
8 GB PNY XLR8 (PC 12800)
XFX R9 290 4GB
Corsair CX750M
HD / SSDs

This thing is just fine gaming, no sweat at all. Generally streams and games like a beast without hiccup.

My problem is that I have transitioned into FPS gaming in the last 2.5 months and REALLY REALLY feel the restriction of CPU encoding while playing fast motion games. I have attempted to switch over to the iGPU doing the encoding and my framerates in game literally tripled, but find Quick Sync quality leaving WAY too much to be desired for FPS streaming to Twitch.

This leaves me considering the 2 PC setup. I have 2 options if I look at it. The most obvious would be to upgrade my gaming rig for my main components, and part together the second PC to do the encoding / streaming. I would use an internal capture card with this setup since it's pretty much what I originally intended.

Well, while shopping last week @ Microcenter, I learned about the Elgato HD60 and thought, hmmm WHAT IF I COULD USE THIS DEVICE TO CAPTURE TO MY LAPTOP AND SAVE A TON OF MONEY ON A SECOND PC?!

Well, that brings me to my question.

Can my laptop handle the load of a 720/60 or 1080/30 stream AND is this a smart idea with the external capture device since I want to eventually capture my Wii U gameplay sessions with my lady?

The laptop in question

Lenovo Y510p

Intel Core i5-4200M 2.5 GHz Processor
6 GB DDR3 RAM
Dual NVIDIA GT750M gfx cards.

Capture device considered for this setup:
Elgato HD60

What do you guys think? Laptop strong enough? Smart idea? Go for the desktop instead?

EDIT
Also, what other hardware am I not taking into consideration with this setup?

Why not install OBS on the laptop, use the video source plugin to playback a pre-recorded 25,000kbps gaming footage and stream the results to your twitch channel.

That should give you some indication as to whether it can handle what your'e throwing at it.

I think you'll struggle a bit with the CPU on anything lower than the "fast" preset.

Also, Audio routing might be a pain.
If you're going to be piping in audio through the line-in/mic port on a laptop, get ready for additional noise.
