Question / Help Trying to set up stream, need help/tips please!

Hey guys Pawpz here,

So I recently built my own computer and I'm pretty content with it.(ratings on my build are appreciated too) I just feel like I can use more help with setting up my stream so I can stream games like League of Legends, CS:GO, etc and still have it look above average/average. I will list my computer specs and internet specs below:

Computer specs:
Intel i5 Quad Core 3570k
Asus Z77-A
8gb Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1866mhz
CM Extreme Power 700w
Pny GeForce Gtx 660
1tb Western Digital (Haute Performance)
BenQ GW2255 22" 1920 x 1080
DL 30mbs UP 7Mbs

And I have a few questions as well:
-What would the average CPU Usage be with League of Legends, OBS, and having pandora up be on my computer?
-Is it normal to have my CPU Usage hovering around 60-75% with those 3 up?
-What's the average CPU usage while streaming?
-Should I install more RAM?

I'll appreciate all the feedback I can get from you guys as I hope to be able to stream consistently and get a partnership with twitch. Thanks guys :)

We can't give you estimated average CPU usage, because so many variables can go into streaming. I just recommend starting at the estimator (http://obsproject.com/estimator) and working from there. You didn't post your log, so it's impossible to say if 60-75% usage is unusual or not.

More RAM might improve system performance, but shouldn't affect stream performance.

Here is the log for my last session:

These were under the estimator's recommended settings for the most part.

an i5 is not really an streaming cpu if you want an actual system which you game and stream with you should have invested 50 bucks more for an i7 ... but still 720p30 should be no big deal with league/csgo/other games + pandora, just make sure that you are not watching your own stream since the flash player takes quite some cpu usage.

i'd say csgo+streaming will be the most cpu intense scenario you will get so i'd say around 65-90% aas a cpu usage there

60-75% is a decent cpu usage for your setup (LoL + OBS), you shouldn't worry about it.

Thanks for the input guys!

And yeah, an i7 wasn't really in my budget but I may put it into reconsideration.

And when you say 720p I should downscale it a little but more right?

not really no ... you are playing on 1080p and also capture it in 1080p and use obs to downscale like everyone else

So my settings are good? Btw you checked my log right or it didn't show up?

uhm cant find your log anywhere?

Here ill post it right now, this is the most recent successful stream session i had.

Btw in the picture you posted what's the filter you're using?

And what if i were to downscale it at 1.25? Would it make any difference?

well im using the bilinear filter i've tested them all i dont really see much gain so i dont care about it. about the 1.25 downscale it depends how your cpu will handle it while gaming i'd guess it will already run into problems if you try to play csgo and stream then.

opne of your biggest problems is
Code:
21:58:28: Aero is Disabled

22:20:45:   New Scene
22:21:45: Using Window Capture
22:21:50: ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
22:21:50:   New Scene
22:21:50: Using graphics capture
22:21:50: SharedTexCapture hooked
22:21:51: ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
22:21:51:   New Scene
22:21:51: Using Window Capture
22:21:52: ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
22:21:52:   New Scene
22:21:52: Using graphics capture
22:21:52: SharedTexCapture hooked
22:37:19: ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
22:37:19:   New Scene
22:37:19: Using Window Capture
22:37:20: ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
22:37:20:   New Scene
22:37:20: Using graphics capture
22:37:20: SharedTexCapture hooked
22:37:22: ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
22:37:22:   New Scene
22:37:22: Using Window Capture
22:37:24: ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

since you have aero disabled, window capture wont really work either enable aero and use window capture + game capture

or disabled aero and use monitor and game capture

Ah I see. I feel as if it handles it pretty well on the 1.25 downscale. And I'll test all 3 filters too.

Other than that, did everything else check out okay? You can check my archive on my stream at twitch.tv/pawpz and judge it from there if you like.

You might be able to tell the difference between the 1.25 and 1.50 downscale, but the untitled broadcast is the 1.25, and the latest video that says "solo dolo q" is the 1.50 downscale.

well 1.25 will result in a sharper picture quality if you are planning to stream league only then your cpu can also handle 1080p30 without a problem but since you listed more games im always talking about the most cpu intensive game which would be csgo on your list and thats why i suggested just sticking with 720p30 since the benefits are meh between 1.25 and 1.5 downscale.

Ah I see, I'll stick to 720p30 then. But I'll probably be streaming league more than CSGO.

And a question about my upload speed, how good is 7 upload for my stream? Would I be able to do more with more upload?

7mbits are by far enough.

i recommend as a non partner not going over 2000-2500 (actually really god quality with 720p30)

Alright sounds good. :)

I just have one question that might not really be stream related but could be.

My monitor is a BenQ GW2255 and it only runs at 60mhz. Now honestly, I did not bother to check the refresh rate and only got it because of the name and resolution(still a noob sorry). What monitor would you recommend?

Oh and I'm asking that because I talked to my friend about why my screen was stuttering or had lines across the screen and he told me it was called thrashing and gold me the effects of it.
