Question / Help Trying to optimize local recordings for Youtube

So according to a guide I found on Youtube handbrake should be optimizing video that is not MP4. so what file format should I be recording as to make sure my videos can be losless compressed with handbrake?

OBS has it built in so you can make local recordings to .flv. You should be able to put that into handbrake right?

Is that still going to be good quality wise? Is there any downside I should be aware of?

Whether or not you go from an .mp4 to .flv from original recording I don't see it making a huge difference since it will be going through handbrake in the end anyway. The few times I've used .flv it has done the job but I'm no expert, but if the whole deal is that you want to use handbake you can always give flv a go.
