Question / Help Trying to display screen from Mac via Windows OBS stream

Hey all. A bit of a unique use-case here. We are trying to show a live-stream of our church service on Facebook live. We are trying to get a screen capture of the iMac we use to display words for songs, sermon notes, announcements, etc. Using a switch and some HDMI over ethernet boxes, we managed to replicate the Mac output up to the Windows computer with OBS on it, but I can't get it to show up in the software. Using an Elgato Game Capture HD60 S. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Your problem may be HDCP. The Mac is outputting an encrypted signal expecting that an HDCP compliant display is on the other end, and your capture card can't do that-- it needs an unprotected signal and will refuse to capture one that's protected.

Putting a non-HDCP compliant splitter between the two will let your capture card get a non-HDCP flagged screen. As long as you're not trying to view any protected content, this will work, assuming that is your problem.

I use this myself when capturing video signals from machines running MacOS.

Ahhh. This seems likely. Now my question is, would that mess up our projector? Definitely a discussion for another forum, but your answer definitely makes sense. Thanks!!

It shouldn't, no. Your projector should not care whether it gets an HDCP signal or not. If it is compliant it will be able to display a signal that is HDCP flagged, but it should not refuse to display one that is not.

The Mac, as opposed to Windows machines or Xbox and PlayStation consoles, appears to flag any connection to an HDCP enabled display as HDCP flagged, whereas the others only turn on the flag for content that requires it.

For instance, I can freely capture anything from my Xbox console without the use of this splitter. However, if I launch an application that shows protected content, like Netflix, the connection would become protected and a capture device would no longer be able to read it.
