Question / Help Trying to capture a specific section of my screen?

Hey all, I tried trolling around in the forums/google for an answer, but couldn't find one readily available - any help is appreciated.

I downloaded HexChat, and I want to put my stream chat onto the stream itself for when I have downtime and am cycling through pictures or gifs or whatever. I know that with XSplit, I could drag a selection for the part of the screen I wanted displayed, and I was trying to get similar results with OBS, but I end up tagging the whole app or the whole inner window instead of just the bits that have the chat.

So I guess I need to know if there is a way to figure out how to tag just that chat window, OR if there's a way of doing this that doesn't involve what I'm trying to do at all.

Thanks, mates!

Yes there is a way. Check the checkbox in Software Capture for Sub-region and press the Select Region button.

So I just need to fiddle with those numbers until I get the section of the screen that I want? Because when I do that, it shows stuff I don't want in there.

Pressing the Select Region button will let you select the exact region you want to capture.

Click and drag the sides of the box until it encloses the area of the screen you want to capture, then press Enter.

Future versions of this box will have transparency.

I know its old but to solve this for me is to click "set base resolution" AFTER selecting the region you want to record. No more big black background!
