Question / Help Trouble with recording audio.

Hi there,
I'm having some trouble recording audio when using skype. All of the other people and the game audio play back as if it recorded each twice. It produces a weird echo. I use a turtle beach 7.1 headset to record my voice as well as game audio. I was able to eliminate the problem by sending skype to my desktop speakers and changing OBS to the same. This does not allow me to hear through my headset though so it isn't really helpful. Any suggestions? In case it matters, I have the same issue when recording with Playclaw 5 as well so I think it has to do with using my headset to record all of the audio though I am not sure...

Thanks,
Sweetlander

If your onboard soundcard has a stereo mix (in the recording section of your windows sound settings, check that you see disabled devices) you could send the sound to your headset while still using the desktop soundcard in OBS.
Just get into the properties of your stereo mix (sometimes also called All you can Hear) and activate the listen to checkbox (has its own tab called "listen"), in the dropdown you then select your headset and should from now on have sound.

Thank you for the quick reply. Just to clarify, after setting my stereo mix to "Listen to this Device" I select my headphones in the drop-down menu and select Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio) for my Desktop audio device in OBS? After doing this I can hear just fine but OBS isn't picking up any of the sound aside from my microphone. Thank you so much again. Hopefully I just misunderstood something.

Hmm, were the Speakers (Realtek) still set to be your default playback device (windows sound settings), so they receive the default windows sounds and game sound etc? In this case it should have worked in OBS. If your headset was the default playback device, that would explain why obs did not hear anything :)
