transitions

hi there, i've had obs for a while, i have tried to follow several tutorials to set up any transition in obs, they work in the preview and then dont work at all when i'm testing it with my own scenes. I need help and the people on discord just ignored me.

It'd be best if you described exactly what you're trying to do... transitions are usually extremely simple, aside from Stingers which are only marginally more-so (having to set the right transition point during their creation in OBS). Usually it's just 'choose the transition to use from the dropdown list', and then switch to another scene.

so i made transitions, i picked default ones and even tried setting them from the menu for different scenes and there is no transition. it shows in preview, but when i go to test it with the actual scenes there is no transition, it says there is one, i have several based on different tutorials and the stock ones from obs i have tried this with but there is no transitions. it doesn't work they dont actually happen. that's the problem and i dont know what to do about it besides uninstalling and reinstalling the whole program or just moving to a different program.

Unless you use the Override, or the Transition Matrix plugin, the transition that will be used is the one selected in the Scene Transitions dock:

It sounds like you may have this set to Cut, if you only have a single canvas preview window.

That or you're in Studio Mode (with both a Preview window and a Program window) and the transition only plays when you hit the Transition button to move the pre-selected scene into the live Program feed. Otherwise it just switches from scene to scene directly, since it isn't being shown on-stream yet at that point; it would be pretty annoying to have to sit through a transition for a scene you're getting ready to switch to, until you actually switch to it, not just select it as the scene to be transitioned to/edited 'in the background'.
