I'm transferring VHS to Elgato video capture with OBS but audio not working? In the Elgato software the audio is working but with OBS I would have more control. i have the VCR about 50 ft from my PC using RCA cables. I'm on windows 10. 64 bit. I have tried the configured crossbar. I have video but no sound in OBS however in Elgato i have video and sound. Can anyone help with step-by-step instructions. Thank you.

I am currently having this same problem. The log file contains this error message,

15:23:43.269: [WASAPISource::TryInitialize]:[Analog Audio In (Elgato Video Capture)] Failed to get mix format: 88890008

From online searching it seems like this format may encode floating point numbers, and is overall rare for devices to use? I am unsure how to proceed.

Okay here's what I did. I don't know why this fixed it, or if this is reproduceable, but I have audio now.

1) Set the sample rate to 48khz from 44.1khz in OBS settings.
2) Restarted OBS
3) Opened Properties for the Elgato video device in the "sources" section of the main OBS window.
4) Clicked "Deactivate"
5) Clicked "Activate"
6) Clicked "Configure Crossbar"
7) Switched input from "1: Video SVideo In" to "Video Composite In"
Upon doing this, the audio magically came back. I don't know why or how.
8) Switched back to "1: Video SVideo In" because it was higher quality.

The audio goes away as soon as I exit that window though.

Hi Knee I have done all of what you posted above however during the same recoding the audio goes out and I have to redue all of these steps again. Is there a way I can fix the audio mixer permanently. I get when you have reset everything then you have to set the audio. Any help would be appreciated . Thank you

Unfortunately, I haven't found a permanent fix. Keeping the window open permanently was good enough for my use-case of digitizing some old VHS tapes, but I couldn't find anything better.

However, I did report this issue to the OBS developers, here. Hopefully they can fix it soon.

Hi Kneesnap

I was able to permanently fix the audio when transferring my VHS tapes to mp4. I contacted the Elgato video capture divice customer support. They advised me to to use a different USB port. Which I did and open the Elgato software to first main page and just leave it open in the background. Then open OBS and the audio will Not fade Out. I've done that and it worked. Foe some reason for the Elgato software has to be open for the audio to pass though to OBS. Hope this helps you and anyone who has had the same problem. Take care.

Thank you so much, Knee. You saved me after several hours of frustration. Thanks again!!!

I'm commenting to add my solution...

The instructions here didn't do anything for me, but pointed me in the right direction. My setup is just composite RGB input. ( No S-video).

No need to have Elgato capture software running in the background.

Simply have a Video Capture Device (no audio input device needed).

Go to its settings, "Configure Crossbar".

Under Output, select Audio Decoder Out

Under Input, select Audio Line In

Hit Apply.

You should now have sound in the Audio Mixer in "Video Capture Device".

This has to be done everytime OBS is started up. My theory is the audio capture has to be initialized somehow, similar to how the Elgato software does it.

This fixed the audio problem!

Oddly enough, it seems like OBS resets these settings if you deactivate / enable the Elgato video capture device.
However, as long as I follow the steps you've laid out here Vigrond, it fixes the issue again.

The only other way I was able to fix this issue was restarting my computer completely!

Thank you so much!
