Hi,

Am totally new to OBS Studio and making streaming recordings so downloaded the Help Guide and read and reread pages 94 and 108 to 118 but did not fully understand all the options which is why I am making this post. Also checked the Guides but did not find anything similar.

Would like to record at 480p 1080p streaming videos and keep the audio the same as the original.

Appreciate any tips/recommendations from others that have done this.

Thanks

Ken.

Hell... this huge page numbers tells me that my Guide was mentioned.

Only desktop. OBS Studio uses 3 platforms: Windows, Mac, Linux. (mobile versions not supported).

Usually, you need to set your Base (Canvas) Resolution to 1920x1080, Output (Scaled) Resolution to 1920x1080 and set Rescale Output for streaming at 832x480 (or so). Encoder - any, but do not set Use stream encoder - because you need different output sizes for the video and for the stream.

Yeah, it was not mentioned anywhere, but when you streaming and recording simultaneously the audio encoded just once per track. If the track that was chosen for streaming also selected for recording then it simply copied to your recording. So, encoding options available only per track (no matter you are streaming or recording or both). By default, OBS Studio uses AAC encoder for audio (up to 320 kbit/s, stereo).

To record MP4 videos compatible with your cell phone, you need to know what format it can playback. Most restrictions is by Profile setting of the x264 encoder.

Also, mp4 was mentioned, I recommend to read this: Stopping recording never ends.

Hi Suslik V,

Thanks for your tips, link, and suggestions!!!

Forgot to mention that I normally use 4K Video Downloader https://www.4kdownload.com/products/product-videodownloader and the only option is resolution.

Am very impressed with all the options that OBS Studio has but am also overwhelmed because I know so little about this.

Do you have any recommendations for Beginer OBS Studio tutorials?

Thanks again for your help!!!

Hi Fenrir,

Thank you very much for the OBS Studio Overview link!!! Somehow I missed it when checking the website.

I have found Video Tutorials very helpful so after posting did a YT search using "OBS Studio" and got ~384,000 results.

Do you have any recommendations for beginners starting to record streaming videos?

Thanks again

Ken

Suslik V,

Sorry about the confusion in my posts.

To begin I will only use OBS Studio to Record Video Streams.

After some recording experience will consider uploading videos.

Update: my 1st recording attempt was a disaster.

Am using Win 7 with 1 Monitor.

Tried to have both the website streaming video and OBS Studio at partial so will fit on the Monitor. This resulted in the recording of the streaming video also partial.

When changed streaming video to Max blocked tool bar so could not operate OBS Studio. Am new to Win7 so do not know how to keep the tool bar always visible.

Appreciate any suggestions!
