I am an old Millennial who has struggled for two days to use this software. I am at the earliest stages. I simply want to capture a video from Youtube, download it, trim it, and export it back to youtube. But whenever I try to use it there are so many windows that open. The boxes actually appear on the recordings. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You're capturing your screen, on which you are showing OBS, which is showing a preview of what's on your screen, which is...

You are much better off using a tool like youtube-dl if all you want to do is edit a youtube video.
