Question / Help TF2 Stuttering issue.

When I normally play TF2, my framerate is between 250 and maxed (300) with all settings topped out except for AA @ 8xCSAA at 1920x1200.

When I run OBS, the framerate seems to never drop below 90-120FPS in intense action according to the cl_showfps console command, but the game feels like it's constantly running at 15 or 20 FPS; it's really jittery. It even feels that way if I turn all of the settings low and lower my comp resolution to 1600x1000.

I don't use vsync and I have it set to disable Aero on launch. My input is 1920x1200 and output to TwitchTV is set to 960x600 @ 30FPS.

My machine is dated, but not quite a slouch:
i7 930 OC'd to 3.22ghz
2GB * 3 (Tri slot) DDR 1333mhz Ram
GTX460 1GB OC'd to 950mhz Core/1900mhz Shader/2000mhz Memory
Sata 2 SSD for OS/OBS
WD Black for Game Installs

Alternatively, if my CPU isn't powerful enough to run both OBS and Source engine games at anywhere near my monitor's native resolution, is there a way to offload OBS's job onto a second comp without using a capture card?

I ask because my second comp is a laptop so although it's strong enough to handle the encoding, it can't take a PCI capture card and the standalone boxes are prohibitively expensive. However, both comps have dual gigabit ethernet ports so I could send it via network cabling assuming gigabit has enough bandwidth for a decent picture at my steaming resolution.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your CPU should be more than fine. And I think your video card is fine, especially if the game is reporting your FPS to be fine. First, make sure you're not using monitor capture with aero enabled. Aero must be disabled or off if using monitor capture or it'll be unpleasant. On the other hand, if using window capture (which is often much better), try with both aero on, and off. Some people seem to get a benefit from aero being on when using window capture (which from a technical standpoint makes sense). Do not listen to anyone who may tell you to mess with the x264 CPU Preset - leave it at veryfast. You only need to change it if your CPU is fairly slow, and I think you have a top-of-the-line CPU. Your FPS is set to 30 so you shouldn't notice the capturing.

Also, a log file would be very useful, if possible. You can access your logs from in-app in the settings menu, or from the start menu if you installed. viewtopic.php?f=6&t=97
