Question / Help Terrible buffering at recommended settings

Hi!

I'm trying to stream at 720p 30-60 fps ideally, but I have had to stream only 360p 30 fps @ 500 kb bitrates. I have 10 mb upload, 9mb+ to all EU servers (Im from Finland), tried different servers nothing, OBS estimator says 3500 kb 720p 30/60 fps or 1080p 30 fps, im not partnered. I shouldn't have any other internet traffic going on and speeds are stable all the time. I use OBS, i have tried other softwares nothing, max bitrate that works is 400 kb and bufffer size the same, but srsly, i should be able to stream much better, ideally 2000 kb. I have x264 encoding, CBR, CFR, 2 keyframe, no other settings but default/recommended, x264 cpu preset veryfast, processor priority normal, my processor is i7-4770k, disable antivirus nothing, updated windows, using game capture, no Aero, no dropped frames, no fps drops, light green all the time, bitrate staying pretty standard.

So my question is why am I not able to stream at 720p 30 fps without it buffering for everyone. Everyone gets insane buffering on my stream, but not others. Both EU and US people. Even I cannot preview my stream without it constantly buffering at 720p 30 fps 1800-2000 kb. I dont wanna stream 360p at 30 fps if I should be able to do much better. Thanks!

if you are buffering watching your own stream then know that your test is not an accurate representative of viewers and if they will buffer or not.

your best bet is to ask your viewers. don't watch your own stream but use a pop-out chat instead.

Lastly, set scene buffering to 700ms. This is NOT why you're buffering but can cause audio and video to not be sync'd if not set to at least 700ms.

I have asked my viewers and they say it buffers every 3-5s constantly if im using other than 360p 30 fps at 400kb bitrates and buffer. They are from EU and when they tried to watch other EU streams they didnt have any issue. I have closed the "preview my stream" on the Dashboard Twitch thingy and using popout chat, still using dashboard while streaming tho... is that a bad thing?

edit: added dashboard twitch

there isn't a good answer for this but above is a good explanation. the reason you don't want to watch your own stream is two fold. 1. for the reason above and 2. because it uses up extra CPU cycles in chrome and firefox which can cause duplicated frames and/or in-game fps loss/stuttering.

the same goes for a paused stream in the dashboard.
