Question / Help Switching to capture card... need help with settings on stream rig?

Hello all,

For quite awhile I was using an nvenc based setup streaming to a linux machine to reencode and stream up. This worked great until I started to play games like Archeage and Shadow of Mordor which didn't work well with this setup. (Too much for the GPU I suppose.)

I've now picked up an avermedia live gamer HD pci card and installed it on my stream rig. Installed windows instead of linux, and installed obs. Here's where things get tricky.

main pc:
1920x1080p resolution/display

stream pc:
1680x1050 display. Now OBS wants to downscale into weird formats.

Traditionally I like to stream 720p/60fps (the stream rig is powerful enough to use medium compression)

I will only be using the capture card and a webcam as well as some local overlay files as sources in this stream machine, so I'm curious how best to set up my OBS for this to deliver standard 720p?

I have tried setting the resolution to 1920x1080 manually and using downscale. It seems my system freezes up when attempting to use lanczos downscaling to 720p.

Would there be harm in setting the resolution to 720p in video (and capture card source) and just not downscaling? Since i am using the capture card and a webcam and thats it, it seems the simplest solution.

Thanks,
Bez

Seem to have partially solved my problems.

With OBS set to 720p resolution, and capture source set to 720p/60, I can indeed capture 720p/60 and stream it. Unfortunately, quality seems to suffer because of crappy downscaling. (Unsure if it's the custom resolution inside OBS, or the card downscaling to 720).

Setting it top 1080p/30 in both obs and in the source capture settings leaves a much better quality stream. Downscaling with lancoz works as expected now. Looking much clearer.

I'm probably going to stick with 30 fps for now though I am quite used to using 60 fps. It's a shame the downscaling looks so poor.

My only issue now is what appears to be tearing on the capture card's output. Need to confirm it is because I am cloning a 144hz display to the capture card.
