suitable for personal tv broadcasting?

Is OBS suitable for broadcasting videos from the list? I mean, for example, once a week I would put in the list what I want to broadcast and when (either from HD or youtube), and OBS would play video from the list on that day and time. Thanks a lot. I've found a couple of plugins, but it still doesn't seem right to me.

Thanks

There's this massive thread that might be worth reading:
Basically, OBS itself isn't really suitable as-is, but there's been a lot of work in that direction, a fair amount of which seems to be documented in there.

@bcoyle seems to be the most knowledgeable on that. He's written an app that essentially commandeers OBS to do its bidding, and your TV station is actually controlled from his app, with OBS as sort-of an unwitting slave.

---

If you really are 24/7 for real, then you're going to have another issue: security patches.
If you don't take them, you're going to get hacked sooner or later. If you do take them, you have to reboot to have them take effect.

Is it okay to take the stream down for long enough to reboot? Or do you need two content sources and a way to switch between them, so that one can be live while the other reboots?
(Note: that switch is not as simple as setting up a third general-purpose machine to receive the first two and feed the server, because *that* machine needs to be patched and rebooted too...)

Thanks for the plug. Yes, Casttor in beta test can run a small tv station. I can tell you more if interested.

Hi Arron. One of the people , that I'm working with runs a re-stream site. The service runs a wowsa service. wowsa will switch over from an incoming scream to either an internal jpeg space holder or some type of video. That lets you power down and when back up again, continue with the restarted stream. Of course there is a cost , but a HD stream at 5mbs for up to 200 concurrent users at about $20 / month is cheap. So I do plan on using the service later on. wowsa also does the conversion for phones etc. So there is a solution , not free, but sometimes there is no free lunch. Of course, you can run your own nxgen server, but that has the problem you mention.

Anyway, back to your request. Casttor will schedule out a month ahead if needed. It will run content when scheduled and also has a TV guide video that shows up when no content is scheduled that tells the viewer what's coming up next. You said , 'private tv station", so what is your dream?

Private doesn't mean personal, but rather an organization that has many videos to its credit that it would like to offer as an online TV service with a weekly schedule. For now its good to know, there is a way with OBS. Thank you.

You're welcome. FYI, Casttor has been running 2 for real public cable access channels for more than a year now, one in Maine and one in the Netherlands.
