Sudden Increase In Backround Noise?

I was fine all day when I was streaming today and I had no background noise through my mic. After the stream, I was missing around with the audio settings, because my discord was not being heard, and now I have a ton of background noise in my mic. Any ideas on how to get rid of it? Are there any settings that turn off windows' or obs' noise reduction features?

Increased background noise is usually caused by something controlling your gain. Discord has a habit of changing your microphone's gain directly in windows. Open your microphone properties in windows (windows settings -> system -> sound -> sound control panel, recording tab), and monitor the volume setting in the Levels tab. If you see this changing, then this is what is causing the background noise issue.

If this is the case, then there a few things to try. First is to try setting your default recording device to something not used -- in the recording tab, just select an unused device. Then in discord, specifically select your actual microphone, and run through the same tests to see if the issue persists.

If that still doesn't fix thins, then uncheck all of the extra voice filter options in discord's voice settings (scroll down past the normal sensitivity/threshold settings), and see if things are fixed... and if that fixes it, then re-add filters as necessary and see which one is the cause.

The microphone is not picking anything up in the levels tab, so it's not that. It looks to be a problem with obs. I can't find the extra voice filter settings, so could You give me a more detailed description of where they are, and what they look like?

Thanks for your help

Audio filters are found by right-clicking on your audio source, and going to Filters (if you're using a global audio source, then click on its gear icon in the mixer, and select Filters).

Is there a way to reset JUST THE SETTINGS in obs? I would be fine wit that

Oh, sorry, thought you were talking about OBS audio filters there.

Discord audio filters are going to be in the Voice & Video section. Scroll down a bit, and you'll see options for things like Echo Cancellation, Noise Suppression and Automatic Gain Control. Turn all of these off just for troubleshooting purposes.

For resetting all OBS settings, this should still be applicable.

Will that also reset my scenes?
I am wary of doing that
