Question / Help Stuttering, Is it CPU or just settings or something else?

HI! I captured a video and set the x264 CPU preset to "fast" to gain better graphics and noticed an stutter in the video every 4 -6 seconds of video, now question is, would it be the CPU getting over loaded that's causing the stutter under the settings that I applied and/or something else?

I have a very high end rig. Six core CPU with 16gig ram and 780gf 3 gig video card on a Asus Rampage IV extream MOBO Overclocked with modified water cooling.

So depending on what's causing the stutter I may try to fiddle with things a bit more.

NOTE: I did notice a difference in quality when viewing with the "fast" setting. I am capturing a game called "Star Citizen" which uses Extremely high end graphics, So basically I want the best quality graphics my rig can handle :)

noone will ever download a file in this forum ... either c&P it in by using the code option with full editor of you try to post a reply or by linking a pastebin link

so if i got this right ... you are trying to locally record a video, right?

-if so change your buffer size to custom and set it to 0 put your preset back to veryfast

-if you woud try to stream with those settings drop your fps to 30 even a fast preset on any moba or whatever slowmotion wont do much with a 1k bitrate. but 720@30 would be okay for streaming

Yes I am just trying to capture locally to file ( MP4 ), no internet involved.
I just want the best quality possible at the actually speed the game is played at.

Question, Does putting buffer size to 0 mean unlimited? ( It does in a lot of applications )?

Question, When you say "stream" you do you mean stream out to the internet or do you mean output ( in my case to file )?

yes by streaming i meant streaming

if you try to locally record buffer size of 0 would allow the encoder to use whatever bitrate is needed to get the quality it wants you could set bitrate to 10000 and buffer 10000 but if you want the best quality 1080p@60 bitrate 1000 buffer 0 and the preset to veryfast
