Question / Help Streaming with AMD switchable graphics laptop!

Hello guys, this is my first appearance in the world of streaming and I use OBS and I have as many others run into a bit of problems.

As of now I am using a Clevon P150EM laptop, also called Sager NP9150.

Specs

I-7 3930QM
Intel HD4000
AMD 7970M

I am pretty sure the rest isn't needed, but I can tell you that it's more than enough for what I do.


Now here's my problem.

I know AMD laptops sucks when it comes to streaming, at least the older ones since you cannot use the game capture mode unless you have a newer version of BIOS on your computer. (I believe the newer version came out at 2014 with the option to change the video configuration into a "fixed" mode, wich made it possible to use OBS with the AMD graphic card).

However, I have a Clevo laptop. And my BIOS is of an older version wich makes it impossible to alter that setting in BIOS.
And I cannot upgrade my BIOS either because Clevo has a policy of mailing them to get it sent back to you, and it's not easy If they do not respond.

My current stream settings are with the Intel HD card and window mode with the comp box checked.
My kb/s is 2500 and I use the x encoder encoder.
When I stream Dota2 I sometimes get fps drops down to 40 and sometimes even 35. My downscale on OBS is 2.5 and my fps settings are 30.
I think my hardware should be enough to make it stream with at least 60 fps in game without any drops. My viewers doesn't notice anything, but I do.

My internet quality is extremely good so that is not a problem either (upload speed is 15 or more).

Now to my main question, is there any way without upgrading BIOS to make OBS choose the AMD card? I have looked around like a madman with no luck so far.

I am also forced to run dota 2 in a boarderless window mode wich also takes a bit more on the cpu combined with the window capture mode.

Will quicksync with a "fake" monitor help me in any way? I've heard that it helps a bit in terms of cpu usage.

When I stream H1Z1 however in good quality I get 0fps drops despite boarderless window mode. I do find that odd.

My only hopes right now is either to try quicksync or to hopefully get my BIOS files, but I've waited for 3-4 weeks so my hopes are not high.

Is there anything else I can do to get rid of the fps drops in game? I have played around with most settings in OBS and I have yet to find a solution for it it. My last hope is quicksync.

Would be extremely Happy for answers :)

I might try it. Seems really nice and I am amazed AMD hasn't come up with this earlier to be honest.

I know why OBS isn't using the AMD card though :)

How well developed is this thing by the way? There are 70+ pages to go through haha.

I might start with quicksync just to see how it goes and because I know how it works. Just hoping that it will make the fps drops go away, otherwise I don't have a choice :)

VCE has been around since around 2011 but the sdk was only announced last year.

Just post asking questions once you've used it. a lot of those posts after page 20 were mine :D @jackun has links to the important stuff that you'll need on the main page. read through that and post if you have questions.

Did you notice a difference after you started using it? Was it better so to speak? :)

I will start to dig around more on this matter tomorrow when I have more time. And also thank you so very much for helping me man.

np, and as long as you stay below 720@60 or 1080@30, no noticable in game lag and not much to tweak. of course I have a hexcore i7 so I dont use the VCE build as much as I used to. I got no drops in fps (circa 260fps in game) on a 100tick l4d2 with 720@48fps.

the higher the server tick, the more intensive the game is on the PC. so com CS:GO matches will lag more than a lower tick server will.
 
So you get no fps drops when playing 720p 60fps?

But yeah, that makes sence :), must be better than using window capture with comp and playing in boarderless window no matter how you look at it :)
