Question / Help Streaming Specs/ How should I upgrade my comp

Hello, I am trying to set up my own stream on Own3d but I am noticing when streaming/ capturing video the framerate is terrible. I believe my comp is too slow and needs some upgrades, can someone please tell me what needs upgrades so my comp can play at a good framerate while capturing video. I have around $350 to spend...

System specs:

1. AMD Athlon II X2 245 Regor 2.9GHz Socket AM3 65W Dual-Core Desktop Processor 2 x 1MB L2 Cache
2. Dell Inc. "Inspiron 570" motherboard model 04GJJT - A00 PCI Express
3. 4 GIGS of DDR3 Dual Channel RAM
4. NVIDIA GeForce GT 520

As you can see my comp is pretty ancient, which spec is most important for streaming? I believe the processor is the weakest link. Please guys any suggestions on what I need to buy would be much appreciated, thank you.

Post a log for the stream when you tested, your computer isn't the best but it's possible your settings are not ideal.

Sure, thanks for the quick reply.
My Download Speed per Speedtest.net is 24.99 Mbps, Upload speed is 4.27 Mbps.

OBS settings as follows:
Video Encoding quality>8 with max bitrate @1000 kbps and Buffer size @ 1000 kbps
Audio encoding set to AAC 128 bitrate format 44.1khz stereo
Video base resolution 1920 x 1080p downscaled ratio 1.50 (1280x720) FPS @ 30
Advanced options: Use multithreaded optimizations, x264 set to "veryfast"

the source I am using is VhScrCap set to 1920x1080 resolution @ 30 FPS, the driver has same settings

I'm not sure what you mean by logs but I have uploaded a video of the captured images here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWUC0yNh ... e=youtu.be

You have a lot of room to increase the bandwidth to compensate for the weak hardware.
What you should do is drop to 480p as your hardware is not good enough for 720p. Also, use a faster preset(superfast or even ultrafast if needed). By doing that while simultaneously increasing the bitrate to 2000-2500 will net you a good quality stream and put less strain on your system.

Well,
giving you upgrade advice on your PC might be tough. It depends on what kind of motherboard you have, cpu socket, etc.

Are you using a desktop or a laptop?

The motherboard I have came with my purchase of a desktop Dell Inspiron 570,
it is a AMD motherboard 04GJJT model, socket type is AM3. The other specs I can think of are listed at the top of this thread.

Ok found it;
http://www.amazon.com/Dell-4GJJT-Mother ... amd+04GJJT

Here are the specs;
http://www.findlaptopdriver.com/specs-dell-04gjjt/

The best processor you can get for this motherboard is an amd quad core. If I were you I would get a new motherboard. The motherboard I have supports 2nd gen i7 and it's only a 70$ motherboard.

http://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-GA-H61N- ... otherboard

http://www.amazon.com/Intel-Core-i5-357 ... eywords=i5

This motherboard, and the i5 will cost 300$ (not including shipping). This should get you the quality you are looking for.

These are only recommendations and purchasing a new motherboard could cause problems for your current hardware if it's not compatible.

If you just want to purchase a new processor, the best one you can get for your motherboard is an AMD Phenom II x4 which is a quad core. go to amazon or wherever you prefer to shop and search for an AMD Processor (Make sure it's AM3)

thank you for the suggestions, really good picks for their prices as well. Before I make my purchase though I have one quick question, how can I tell if the parts will fit in the Inspiron 570 case? The case I believe is considered a Mini-tower, and the motherboard referenced above is listed as Mini-ITX. Will it fit? This also brings into question overheating concerns with the new hardware, and what size power supply would be adequate? Currently I have a 500 watt PSU. Thanks in advance.

I can't really give good advice on upgrades, but my system is pretty similar to yours, except im running a geforce gtx 550 ti.

My motherboard is also a AM3 socket, but mine allows up to a 6 core cpu, so im ordering one on friday and thatll suit my purposes just fine...but then i also have a full size tower case.

In general though, I'd agree with getting the new motherboard, and a new case if needed...can usually get a halfway decent one for around $30 or so...and i believe the 500W should be fine...im personally running a 800W, but thats only cuz of my video card.
