Question / Help Streaming Retro Consoles: Downscale or Custom Resolution?

I am streaming NES, SNES, and Genesis games. I use AmarecTV to capture the source, and then capture AmarecTV in OBS.

My question is, should I be down-scaling from my desktop resolution? Or in this case is it safe to just set a custom resolution size?

Both settings have worked fine in the past, but I'm just looking to eliminate an unnecessary step (down scaling) if possible?

I've been trying to search the forums and google for an answer to this, but I just run across this topic for PC games and games that are running native on a higher resolution. Where in this case, it's just a capture card (DVC100) throwing out a 720x480 signal. Couldn't find much regarding actual retro consoles and not emulators.

Thank you!

Hey Harold. I am using AmarecTV so I can de-interlace and capture at 60fps, as well as running a local recording in the background. I do capture AmarecTV using OBS's "Video Capture" source. I'm just unsure if I should be downscaling my desktop resolution, or if I am in the clear to just set a Custom Resolution, rather than down scale. I have very high upload speeds, but I am only streaming in 432p-480p. That way I don't have to use a crazy amount of bitrate and can reach a wider audience.

Sorry if I am confusing :x

Downscaling your resolution to the approximate resolution that you want to output your stream at is probably the best bet for you.
