Hey everyone,

I've just purchased a elgato hd60 pro with hopes to boost my video quality but I'm not sure about the settings and if i even need the capture card at all.

My specs...

Windows 10
mobo: asus rog maximus ix hero
cpu: i7 6700k @4.0Ghz
gpu: gtx 970 4gb x2
32gb ddr4 ram
internet upload speed is 10Mbps

Primarily I will be streaming but if i can record at the same time I would like to.
I have both ps4 and pc going through the capture card.
Not sure if I should use the nvidia hardware option for encoding/decoding or the elgato x264 encoder software orrr something else?

Any help/suggestions/feedback would be appreciated!

I would seriously consider using NVidia ShadowPlay for the recording. It uses less resources and the quality is very good. You can do this alongside OBS whilst using x264. It hooks into more low level hardware than OBS can, thanks to NVidia restrictions.

Then use x264 in OBS to stream. What settings to use would depend on a few different things. If you are non-partnered or have no transcoding then shoot for 720 / 30 and bitrate around 2500.

If you are using Beam or YouTube, you can ramp up the bitrate and potentially to 60fps.

You gain absolutely nothing by capturing the same pc you have a capture card installed in.

No 3rd party software is capable of using the elgato's built in encoder. Only their software can, and you gain no quality using that encoder.
