Question / Help Streaming Question

Hi everyone. I'm REALLY new at doing live streaming so please pardon my ignorance here. I wan to setup a facebook/youtube broadcast but I don't want to use a crappy webcam so I'm opting to use a DSLR through an Elgato Game Capture HD60 S+. OBS seems to have a lot of features I like but I was wondering if it's possible to do some sort of split-screen with it for remote interviews? I know there are several web services that can do it (like streamyard) but I don't know if any out there that can interface with what I'm trying to do. Any help you guys can provide is appreciated.

Most commonly this is done just by window capturing the VoIP program you're using, and arranging your sources in the scene layout.
Some programs (like Skype for Creators) will provide an NDI output for each call-participant that OBS can capture if you install the obs-ndi plugin and NewTek NDI redistributable.

But yep, lots of people already do this, it's generally pretty easy.

  • What do mean by a "VOIP program"?
  • What is an "NDI Output"
Sorry, I'm really new to all of this. On a 1-10 level of skill when it comes to streaming, my level is a 1 :)

A VOIP program is an internet voice chat client. Some support just audio and others audio and video.

Skype, Zoom, Google Hangouts, Webex, Mumble, Discord.

NDI is a means of sending high quality audio/video feeds over a local area network. There is a plugin for OBS which allows it to send and receive feeds of this type. Skype can send feeds of this type, and webex and zoom can accept them as input.
