Question / Help Streaming Pokemon Heart Gold

Every time I try to stream Pokemon heart gold the animations and sounds start getting slower and slower until it's basically unplayable. This only happens when I stream and I have no idea how to fix it. I use window capture and the emulator I use is Desmume. I have tried messing with settings in the emulator as well as OBS but if fix anything it just slows down again minutes later. I've tried lowering bitrate, increasing fps both in the emulator and obs, adding frame skip, I don't know what to try next. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

Does OBS slow down at all? Or the emulator? Not sure what to suggest if the emulator -- emulators typically take up a lot of CPU on their own, and will probably have to fight with the encoder if the video settings are too high.

I have gotten a message in the bottom left of OBS saying it was taking too long to encode or something, some kind of problem with encoding, but I haven't gotten that message again so I don't know if I fixed it or not

Ah, that's what I thought. They're just competing over CPU usage because they both require a lot. The above advice for quicksync is good advice -- you may however just have to lower OBS' settings to make more room for the emulator. Using more downscale (lowering output resolution) and/or lowering framerate to 30 (if it was above 30) is the best way to reduce CPU usage, though if you don't mind a bit decreased quality in exchange for higher resolution, you can also change the x264 CPU preset in advanced to 'superfast' or 'ultrafast' to reduce encoder CPU usage (at the cost of quality)
