Question / Help Streaming Overwatch on 720p 60fps

Hi,

My setup has a GTX 1080 and an i7-6700k overclocked to 4.5 GHz with a 1080p 144hz monitor. I am on Windows 10.

Is it simply my CPU that cannot handle both playing Overwatch at 1080p 144fps and streaming at 720p 60fps on Lanczos and x264+medium preset? The stream does not drop frames or anything but I get FPS drops when playing and streaming Overwatch (high priority in OBS). I know I can change to a faster preset to take strain off of my CPU but the image quality drastically falls.

Is the 6700k simply not good enough to play and stream Overwatch at my settings due to having only four cores? Would the 6900k with eight cores be able to handle the above without getting close at all to maxing CPU usage? I'd like to know how drastic of a difference the 6900k's performance is over the 6700k's in terms of streaming and playing on the same PC.

Hey, I stream Overwatch at 720p60 downscaled from 1440p144 (I usually actually bring hz down to 120). Medium preset is pretty CPU intensive, and so is Overwatch. Your GPU is probably handling itself just fine, but the CPU is most likely struggling a bit. Upload a log, or at least monitor CPU usage while streaming+playing. If you can, up the bitrate (unless you are at twitch's limit) and change x264 preset to one that's less impactful on the CPU. Also, monitor GPU usage and if it is capping out (unlikely) just lower the graphics in game.
