Question / Help Streaming older games on Steam, only getting audio.

Hello,

I am trying to do Knights of the Old Republic and Sonic CD (both are running off of the steam client).
Sonic CD has problems allowing me to alt-tab to set up the source. The screen will constantly flicker when I alt tab to OBS, but thats more graphics card and computer end. Do I need to use the Hotkey to determine the source?
KOTR I can set the source but I'm running into a similar issue.


When I try it, I get audio (sometimes I'll get some video... but the timing is way off).

(I haven't got the audio equipment set up right, so my voice is soft here. Any I need to mess with my quality settings BUT the stream worked! Good job guys!)

Currently Game capture doesn't support old DX8/DX7 games.. Use window capture instead if the game support windowed mode if not use dxtory or try this http://enbdev.com/convertor_dx8_dx9_v0014.htm you can also run the game in windowed mode using d3dwindower. all fails a capture card should be a solution.

I was afraid of that.

Sadly Steam is setup in such a way this makes it very difficult to set games into windowed mode (if the game doesn't support window mode).

Actually steam makes it pretty easy. Right click on the game > properties > launch options > add "-windowed" (without the quotes) > click "Ok"
(For some games "-sw" works better than "-windowed")

Game should be lauched in windowed mode

That works with Valve games, not games bought on Steam not developed by valve.

I tried on KOTR anyway incase something has changed, but no such luck.

that's not true. All games i play via steam works with that command. Including Arma 3, BO2, MW3, Planetside 2 etc. etc.

But looks like KOTR does not work :/

I just had this specific problem with KOTOR as well, and the only solution I could come up with was to window the game and stream that specific cropped section of the desktop where the window was.


It worked, and looked no different to the viewer even if it was a bit wonky on my end.

You might be able to use DxTory to capture.
