Question / Help Streaming eating through upload data

Hey guys, I stream using the OBS program with quite a high upload speed (35mb/s), I get 500gb a month allowed data before I am capped and some how I am going over it EVERY month due to upload data.

Is there a way I can edit my OBS settings so that it stops chewing through my data?

Thanks in advance,
Dressy

Your only choice is to lower the bitrate or reduce the amount of time you stream. I assume you meant 3.5mbps, if you're really streaming at 35mbps then it should be no surprise. Also you should check your ISP really means 500gb both up and down, some ISPs have much smaller upload caps.

I wasn't kidding about the speed, it is excessive. I can't lower my upload speeds therefore I thought maybe there would be a way to lower how much it is actually using when I do stream, what bitrate would you recommend me lowering it to?

Otherwise thankyou for your response

No, you don't stream with such a high bitrate, it's not the same as upload speed.
For streaming to twitch 2000-2500 kbps is a good bitrate.

Oh! I miss understood, okay my current OBS settings are at 2000 kbps and this is eating through my monthly data allowance so the solution would be to lower that? I apologise, I'm really bad with this sort of thing

So in terms of options, I would either have to deal with chewing through 200+ gb in a couple of weeks and stick to decent quality streams or lower the quality

Doing streams at 35mbit means that only a small handful of people are ever going to be able to watch them.

Not to mention that Twitch starts having problems in the 4-5mbit range.
