Streaming Camera suggestion

Hello,

New user of OBS. Our church setup is quite old and the capture device being used is a handicam (Sony TRV 6e). I have installed obs suite and when i add the capture device it comes up as a "Microsoft capture device" but is a blank screen. The camera is connected to firewire adapter on the PC, tried several options but not successful in adding the device.
If this camera is not supported can anyone suggest which camera i can use, The sound system setup is about 45' from the pulpit. If i use a webcam it might work but i will not be able to zoom. Can i use an IP PTZ camera ?, If so how will that be supported as there would be no driver software installed on the camera.
Any help on how to setup would be appreciated.

Thanks for your time and help in advance.

So, its been a LONG time since I used Firewire anything into a PC (and not a video camera)... so can't help there specifically. Others may be able to help if you provide specifics (exact make/model capture device), firewire version, OS version, etc

Though basic troubleshooting applies.
- First, I'd try something other than OBS (ie simpler / less complex) to see if can are receiving a video signal. You might just need to set a custom resolution. Lots of possibilities, many of them having nothing to do with OBS. So make sure video out to PC is working. Then if you get success there, then have trouble with OBS, ask for help for that specifically
- Though that is a low resolution camera (well under 720p.. not sure if 480p or 600p (S-Video)). regardless, if streaming to Facebook, standard is 720p, so something to be aware of

As for what camera to get... depends on what you are trying to do. ie - Celebrant standing static, you can use a USB webcam (I did so for 6 months)... we just got our $2K+ PTZ camera which I'm getting used to in prep for when we start having in Sanctuary and remote services (we haven't had indoor service since Mid March). So in terms of a camera - lots of options but a recommendation would depend on what you are trying to accomplish, type of service (all remote, vs people in pews) etc.
I happen to be using a NDI PTZ camera from Panasonic, and they have a Virtual USB driver that connects to the H.264 stream (and makes it available like a USB webcam). Or you can use NDI software. Other PTZ cameras have similar. Beware security cameras that are low visual quality and 15fps vs the 30fps you'll be broadcasting at. Regardless, you'll need enough CPU and GPU horsepower to decode video stream from camera, video composite with OBS, and encode for streaming

As for audio, for now we take Aux out from sound panel, adapt to 3.5mm TRRS into streaming PC (connecting using a 75ft XLR snake/breakout box because we had one). Beware that your mix for in-Sanctuary speakers vs remote listening will be (very likely) different. So, shortly I'll be moving the PC into the 'sound closet' USB connecting the sound panel/mixer to the streaming PC, running the sound board software and being able to do a mix specific to streaming. I'll run long KVM cables and control PC from up in choir loft. What you can/should/might use for audio depends on your sound system

Obviously, happy to help if I can
