Question / Help Stream With Macbook Air or better

Hi, I'm a Portuguese Youtuber and I stream mobile games.

I already tryed OBS in my Macbook Air but I think is demand to much of my CPU and the Live stars lagging.

This are the specifications of My computer:

1.8GHz Processor
256GB Storage

  • 1.8GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor
  • Turbo Boost up to 2.9GHz
  • 8GB 1600MHz LPDDR3 memory
  • 256GB SSD storage1
  • Intel HD Graphics 6000
I'm thinking in buying a Macbook Pro with better specifications but I need to try a little more the stream with my Air.

I play on the ipad and I pass the image to the computer using the quick time. And I capture that window with OBS. the only programs Ihave open to stream is the OBS, Chrome, Itunes and Quick time. (Cam is out of the reach for now)

My network is not the best, but when I use Youtube Gaming from my phone I can stream without problems in 480p. But in OBS I can't neither in 360p.

Do OBS have some specification to use the minimum CPU of the PC? does the stream quality to Youtube or Twitch influence that use?

Can someone please help me with a configuration or it's impossible to stream from my Macbook Air.

Thank you

Window capture on MacOS performs poorly and laptops (especially on MacOS) are not good for streaming; the MacBook Air is especially not good for streaming.

OBS doesn't care whether you use YouTube or Twitch, it only cares about bitrate, framerate, resolution, and CPU preset.

The lowest possible framerate (usually 30fps) at the smallest possible frame size (say 360p) at the highest bitrate your outgoing internet connection can sustain, with the CPU preset in the streaming encoder set to the fastest possible setting (ultrafast) is your best bet. If those settings eliminate your lag, then try increasing frame size until it lags, then back off.

If it doesn't, then you need more machine, but Mac laptops for many reasons are very, very poor choices for streaming (and I say that as a Mac owner and user who streams with Macs).

Thanks, I will give up on mac beacause to get a pro that can stream I have to spend a lot so I will test streams on windows, when the only problem I probably will have will be the internet

This method worked for me, thank you. Stream wasn't choppy in 360p or 480p. Using a Macbook Air 2014 version.
