Question / Help Stream Quality vs Accessibility

Hey everyone. Firstly I just want to say what a pleasure it is to use this great software. I hope everyone can donate so we can make OBS the best it can be!

Anyways, onto my question. I am trying to stream DayZ on twitch with the best quality possible while being accessible for those with lower internet speeds. I 'm not sure what the average twitch user's download speed would be.

I used to stream using 3500kbps @ 720p 60fps but I found when I was turning in-game my stream would get very pixellated. So now I have found a sweet spot at 540p 60fps with 128k AAC audio output using 3250kbps using this formula: ((960 * 540 * 60 * 0.1) / 1000) + 128 . The 128 stands for the audio bitrate used. My cpu preset is veryfast and I am using Lanczos filter.

I have noticed that the video looks darker than in 720p but the quality is not that bad. I find it quite watchable. I just don't want to exclude people from watching because they have a poor internet connection. I can supply links to my recorded streams if necessary.

Thank you.

High quality demands high bit rate. High bit rate makes it less accessible. You're going to have to choose between quality and accessibility.

If you really want to shoot for high accessibility, I wouldn't put your bit rate much higher than 2000kbps. Then you can work backward from there to find something that will look nice.

DayZ is particularly difficult, because x264 seems to have a hard time making the grass look nice and not pixelated.
