Question / Help Strange Lag and encoding problems....

So I think I may have mixed up my recording and my streaming settings, but I've been having these strange issues with lag in game while gaming and streaming my cpu doesn't go over 33% load. I tried raising the priority of the game and OBS but that just made it worst. I have really started having this problem when I changes my motherboard and was forced to lower my overclock from 4.6Ghz to 4Ghz due to MSI's bad vrms. I attached the log file if that helps. I think it may be my crf settings.

Your graphics adapter is sub-par. Lag in games while compositing a number of sources, capturing the game, and playing the game is understandable due to that face.
 
Well my internet speed isn't constant though my graphics card gets well over 60 fps for the games I'm playing. But at times the stream (video and sometimes audio) will slow down till the encoding catches up but its not constant. So what your saying is my upload speed is causing this weird frame drop in both the stream and the source? Will changing my CPU preset to super fast have any effect?
 
i would rather consider upgrading your gpu because your cpu should have no problem with 720p60 on default preset depending on the game obviously

but your gpu is quite old now and tends to fall behind and i actually doubt that the change of the mb and the decrease of the overclock has anything to do with it



the question is now wheres the problem in streaming or recording

because for streaming yout dont need quality settings since you stream with cbr enabled

overall i would change the scene buffering time back to the latest default "700"
 
whatever you want .... depending on the budget you have just remember to go with either the latest amd or nvidia cards else it would be wasted money
 
Actually it's not my GPU, I ran task manager while I was streaming today and obs is causing my CPU clock speed to drop from 4GHz to 1.3 GHz and the load drops from ~70% to 20%-30% along with the clock speed causing these terrible lag spikes. This only happens when OBS is in active use. (Streaming, Recording, etc)
 
I would suggest to check your BIOS to see if any speedstep setting is activated or powersaving setting that turns down the cpu to save power.
 
My cpu doesn't get over 60c under load, and if it throttles itself I would see this problem across the board when gaming. AM3+ Doesn't throttle or save power for any man. I'm pretty sure that this is an OBS issue that really needs to be patched.
 
then there would be more people having those usses ... right now as far as i can see through forum posts you are literally the only person

there has to be some sort of option you have either changed or is untouched and should be changed to maintain a stable cpu frequenzy
 
I'm going to try changing my cpu preset to Faster, then Fast to see if that helps. I also noticed cuda was turned on even though my card can't use cuda. How do I disable cuda?

Could be but maybe not. I have a Radeon HD 7850 and get similar problems.
 
CodeBlackGames - My mentioning of the graphics adapter was separate from the main issue. I should have included "also" when I stated it. His problem was with the dropped frames, and any graphics-related issues was most likely related to his graphics adapter.

aweblade4 - The CPU preset should not be modified unless you know what it does. 'veryfast' is the overall best middleground, 'superfast' makes the encoder run faster and use less CPU in exchange for lower quality, 'ultrafast' makes the encoder use as little CPU usage as possible in exchange for even lower quality. 'faster' makes the encoder actually use *more* CPU, not less. Ugh, why did x264 have to name their presets this way.
 
It's not my graphics card though, I wasn't having this problem before I my CPU starts downclocking every 5 minutes during streaming and recording. My Problem isn't dropped frames, everybody gets dropped frames, I just increased my cpu preset from very fast to faster because I wanted it to use MORE cpu. Downclocking leading to a lower cpu load isn't a hardware issue. If it was thermal throttling (Which AMD doesn't have a safety feature for) it would just shut off my computer on the spot.
