Stinger Transitions: audio doesn't fade in and out for VLC source

Hello, I didn't use OBS for two months and coming back to it I've run into a problem that introduced itself in a recent update. I use stinger transitions to move to a BRB scene and back. My BRB scene is a VLC Video Source, with a directory full of videos. Before I took a break the stingers went relatively smoothly audio-wise. Now the audio from the BRB scene comes in abruptly at full volume about 1 second into the stinger. Coming out of the BRB screen, the audio cuts out abruptly at the end of the Stinger

(I should mention that perhaps I use stingers differently than other people, my stingers are not graphics that partially cover the scenes, they are full-screen videos. Think about an old broadcast TV show where it will cut to a video and you hear someone say, "Full House will be right back after these commercials.")

Right now the Properties for the Stinger say Transition Point: 4000 ms and the Audio Fade Style is "Fade out to transition point then fade in". The stinger is about 8 seconds long. So transitioning from a gameplay scene to my BRB scene using this stinger, this is what should happen, please correct me if I am wrong:

1. The stinger video should start playing over the gameplay scene and the audio from the gameplay scene should start fading out.
2. After 4 seconds, the audio from the gameplay scene should be faded out completely, and the BRB scene audio should start to fade in.
3. The Stinger Transition completes and the BRB scene is on stream.

I have tried changing the Transition Point to many different values, and the BRB audio always comes in after 1 second. I have tried changing the Audio Fade Style to Crossfade and it's the same problem, the audio for both scenes plays at equal volume during the Stinger. I have tried making the Transition Point equal to the length of the stinger video, or half length, and it does not make any difference.

I have tried deleting the stingers and re-adding them fresh. I have tried using the Transition Override feature and changing the value there too.

I don't think I can use Media Source instead of VLC Source for this purpose because Media Source can only do one file, and I need to shuffle through a folder of videos. Is this an issue particular to how the VLC Source feature works? I ask because the behavior of the VLC Source's audio just does not follow whatever variables I tinker with in the Stinger Transition's properties.

I've been running some tests and searching on Google, it seems like people have had this problem and the solution is to use outside plugins, which I am worried will break with some update down the line and never get updated. Can anyone at least tell me that one of the plugins handles the issue I'm trying to solve?

As an aside, I don't know if the OBS update puts a greater strain on my computer's RAM or CPU, or whatever, but the stinger transitions are now skipping and have audio hiccups.

Please help. Thank you.

I've been running some tests, it seems like the 1 second delay was due to OBS having to load the video for the BRB scene. I say this because I added a VLC source to another scene that is music files, and the music plays instantly when I switch scenes. So in a transition from A to B, I have the audio from A, the Stinger audio, and the audio from B, all playing at the same time at max volume. This is regardless of what I tinker with in the Stinger Properties. I am tempted to reinstall OBS at this point because it is driving me up the wall.

I realize that I was supposed to provide a log file. Sorry.

I've overcome this issue by installing the Advanced Scene Switcher plugin. It is a very good plugin. Thank you.
