Bug Report Static in headset when streaming

I actually investigated this and could not find any particular change that could possibly cause such a thing. However -- please tell me - are you using a headset that's plugged directly into the back of the motherboard or something? It's possible you're picking up static from the motherboard or something.

Well, in my case it shouldn't be about changes: I had the problem every version I tried. ^^

However, I have done the following: Setting "Using high quality resampling" activated -> no change.
Changed Audio Device from "Microphone (High Defintion Audio Device)" to "Standard" -> no change. Well, got slightly worse I feel.
Used the audio port at my case -> no change. (Used direct motherboard port before.)
Deactivating Audio Device -> yay, no static! :P

What gets my thinking is that I use voice a lot, mainly Skype and Teamspeak. I have never heard any complaints about me producing background noices like a static. So I would think that it's not my hardware.

That happens to me as well. Isnt this a tricky one.

Hey, in your picture, you show the application as being manually muted. Did that fix the problem for you or something?

Hmm, very weird. So you muted the application itself, like in the picture, and it got rid of the problem? I wish this happened on my end.

I tried it: Did not fix the static, it muted the music I was hearing through grooveshark. So the stream didn't hear grooveshark but I was able to talk to the stream with my mirophone. However, when I experimented a little I noticed that the when I demuted OBS, the static got a little louder. So there seems to be more than one dimension.

...oh man, I'm slow. It has to do with the microphone. Muting the microphone in OBS let's the static disappear but the stream of course has all the sounds and music. Why haven't I mentioned that earlier?

I just wanted to update this post. I've tried every OBS released from 0.33a - now 0.47a And anything above version 0.421a has static in the headset. On my end only, stream sounds fine. It makes listening to music really annoying.

The static isn't constant, it's only heard while the stream or preview is running.
There is only static heard while audio is going into the headset. So during a sound in game, music etc.

If your getting crackling/popping sound and using a webcam for you stream, make sure to use the video codec MJPG and not RGB24, since having alot of USB devices hooked up and running all at once, will cause interference through the chip.

Make a video software capture source, then when created, right click on it and go to properties. Youll see a drop down menu called Use Output Format, change it to MJPG

Hmm.. My only options are RGB24 and I420.. looks like it defaulted to I420, I looked up and downloaded MJPG but I can't get it to show up in the dropdown.. What is it that .421a used?

Bumping this since this is my exact problem. Tried all of the fixes in this thread but no luck with removing the crackling sound. Only happens when I start streaming. I am using a webcam.

I am having the same problem... it more of a cracking sound in the music... i have noticed that it is only when i use a webcam though... first i thought it was because i got a new monitor but it seems to be an issue with webcames... if i turn it off the music is fine... I did not have this problem before the new update.

Often such a crackling sound due to webcams comes from the webcam being too high of a resolution. Try opening the webcam source properties and lowering its resolution.

LIFESAVER!! I was so close to just tossing away my Siberia Elites because I thought it was the headset. Then just now when I was testing some new lighting, I noticed the crackling started as soon as I previewed my stream.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! <3<3<3

Edit: Totally worth failing at the login process like five times just to tell you thanks!
