SRT help: Url not working

Hi - I'm new to SRT, and I could really use some help setting up the encoder URL. It seems pretty straightforward... If my url is:
srt://76.86.244.229:9710
then the IP address should be where the receiver/decoder is, and the port should be the router port for the receiver/decoder's ip. Yes?

OBS is consistently giving me errors saying "Invalid Path or Connection URL. Please check your settings to confirm that they are valid"

I can't find any comprehensive instructions for how to address one of these streams - can someone either please help me fix my url, or point me to an easy to understand set of guidelines? The Haivision white papers don't help, nor does the OBS wiki.

I have the same issue, I was following this write-up https://obsproject.com/wiki/Streaming-With-SRT-Protocol. I'm just starting OBS, entering my local address srt://127.0.0.1:5000 and hit start stream

Would appreciate any help

I've actually got it working, you need to type it as "srt://76.86.244.229:9710?mode=listener" if you are streaming this to vlc for example
