Source Naming???

Frustrated, hope there is an easy fix. When creating a new source (in this case, a new media source), OBS simply names it "media1, media2", etc. Older versions we created the name, which makes it easier to identify. Is there a way to rename these? Please, put it back the way it was! I did find the info in the profile .json file, but, should I even edit the name there???
 
I'm a little confused, because the moment you create a new source the very first dialog you'll see is the one asking you to provide a name. So if you go with the default name... then yah, that's what's being used.

Which then leads me to the question: how exactly are you adding a new source (just in case!)? The easiest way is to click the "+" icon underneath the sources Dock (the 'pane' shown at the bottom?).

For the record: I am using OBS 32.1.2.
 
Here, in my opinion, the frustration comes from the:
1. drag-n-drop with mouse (uses file name for the source name)​
vs
2. create new source via OBS menus and buttons (uses some text template for the source name).​

So, just two different ways to add the source to the program.

By the way, sources in OBS can be renamed manually by hitting "F2" key or via the corresponding option in the right-click menu over the source in the "Sources" pane.

OP is talking about OBS 32.2.1 which has a new add source dialog and is right to point that the ability to set a name was removed. Now you add the source and then use the right click context menu from the source dock to change the name. It's an extra step not needed and was perfectly fine the way it was.
 
Correct, this was removed. In the next release of OBS (v33) there will be a "Name" setting within sources properties themselves which open after you create a new source.

Let's us hope that cherry-picking of commits/features would not fail in the next release.
