Question / Help Sound in Facetime not working

I followed all of these instructions [https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/os-x-capture-audio-with-ishowu-audio-capture.505/] and successfully downloaded and used iShowU audio capture to record audio and video on Skype.

However, when I try to record audio and video on Facetime, it isn't working. The other person can hear me but I can't hear them. I changed the "output" setting on Facetime to multi-output device and still no go. Nor does it work if I change that setting to iShowU audio capture.

Am working on HighSierra.

Would greatly appreciate help on this!
thanks.

Hi Narcogen, thanks for your reply.

Did you mean "from the device that FaceTime outputs to..." - cause there's no problem with Skype....? Also, I'm a real nubie on OBS and this kind of software in general, and unfortunately I don't know how to forward or what "to a hardware device you can monitor." means. :(

Did you download and open LineIn? it's a pretty straightforward app. It takes audio from one port and forwards to the other. The only interface it has shows two audio interfaces. So if OBS and your FaceTime participant can hear you, but you can't hear, you need to take audio from the port that OBS is recording from and select as an output a hardware interface you can listen to, preferably headphones.

I use LoopBack instead of iShowU or SoundFlower, but the principle is the same. You set your virtual audio port (in my case LoopBack, in your case iShowU, for others, SoundFlower) and you set it as default output, and as an input in OBS.

Then you open Line In and choose the virtual port as an input, and your headphones as an output. Now OBS can record, your FaceTime correspondent can hear, and you can also hear.
