Question / Help Sound disappears

I've seen it quite a few times now. I have multiple soundcards in my rig and that might cause disturbance. I NEED to keep an eye on the OBS VU meters when starting a stream because suddenly one day there is NO sound. Then I open the Sound Output Recording whic says recording from Standard device. I switch to another device, save and switch back to standard. And the sound is back...

I made a ton of streams at first with no sound and it still happens I forget to check the sound.

This malfunction is not the most brilliant thing in the world... And I know Windows is a shithead when it comes to managing sound devices...

Windows switches the standard audio devices while you plug in usb headsets, switch on/off bluetooth headsets, and in general if you turn on or off some audio-related devices such as speakers. Some applications don't follow this switching immediately. They keep using the device that was standard at the time the application was started, or the time the application started using the device.

To avoid that OBS gets the wrong device, don't use the device named "default" in OBS but instead configure the actual device you want it to use. This way, no temporarily plugged-in headset can hijack the default device away from OBS.

At the same time, look at your game or whatever you intend to record or stream. They often output their audio to the default device as well. That means, the actual device varies according to the status of your output devices - plugged in or not, switched on or not. To make this consistent, as well configure these apps to output not to the device called "default" but to the actual device name you want them to output.

Use a permanent device for all this, not a headset that can be plugged in our out, or switched on or off.

This making permanent of the audio device may collide with you wanting the output of your game in your heaset. Unfortunately, you cannot have all. Installing an external mixer app like Voicemeeter may help, or using virtual audio devices like VB-Cable.

Well OBS does not follow the switching at all. It should do that. I find my self over and over streaming without sound because I forget to check something that should work without hazzle. Game use Standard device always and this works. It always follows standard.

It is fine that OBS always is set on Standard. It just doesn't recognize when I leave ASIO and Windows goes bask to send Audio to normal, OBS doesn't get it - even if OBS is set to Standard always.

It is not a question of having it all. It is a question of OBS taking sound from Standard device - just like everything else.

I dont really know what is happening here. I set the sound device to my normal speakers and it works for some time. Streaming a lot and suddenly one from the audience says there is no sound. Then I check OBS and somehow it has reverted to Standard - but with NO sound. Then I set it back to my speakers until a week later where someone in the stream chat says theres no sound.

It would be nice if OBS would STICK to the device I select and Never change it by itself because I do not notice until its too late. And its kinda embarassing to stream without sound. Am I doing something wrong?

Yesterday I sat OBS to use my speaker output because it was set to standard. Today I noticed it was set back to standard...

So once again I set it back to my speaker output...

This issue shut my channel, leading to a psychological breakdown. I switched profiles to another to export everything to reinstall Windows, and BOOM! FIXED! It has something to do with the profile.
