Sorry. Yet another black screen thread.

I'm using a laptop and bought a USB3 capture device on amazon. I am wanting to stream cable from my firestick as the source, but I'm stuck at a black screen when capture card is plugged into usb3.

Windows 11 version: 24H2(Build 26100.4202)
Laptop is HP 17-cp3xxx
AMD Ryzen 5 with Radeon Graphics, 2301 Mhz, 6 Core(s)

In OBS, I added a Video Capture Device under Sources. Under its Properties, I can select USB3 Video.
In Controls -> Settings -> Advanced, I set Process Priority tot Above Normal. (a youtuber suggested this).

I tried right-clicking on the OBS on the desktop -> Properties -> Compatibility and selected the option Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows 8.

In System -> Display -> Graphics -> Custom settings for applications:
OBS Studio (obs64.exe) is added. The option for GPU preference is set to "Let Windows decide". I also tried "High Performance (AMD Radeon (TM) Graphics) too.

Something odd I noticed - when I plug my capture card into usb, windows doesn't make a notification sound, like when you plug in something like a usb stick or external hard drive - not sure that matters.

Probably not an issue with OBS, you can confirm by trying to load the capture card in any other software such as Discord, the windows Camera app, etc.

I've never used discord before, so I opened the windows camera app and clicked "take video". I switched the camera from my laptop webcam to USB3 and the screen is black. Is that the right thing to try?

Yes, seems like you may want to reach out to the capture card manufacturer for support.

Thanks again. I think I'll just return it and get another one.
Yup - I bough a cheaper one from Horuhue and it worked - audio is not working but video did out of the box, so I'll just google some tutorials. So yeah, AMD Ryzen 7000 series GPU users...try and avoid BENFEI.
