Question / Help Sony Vegas not opening Output files correctly. "Fixed"

So I recently tried recording some gameplay via the latest version of OBS using file output only, the files playback fine in VLC but when I insert them into Sony Vegas I only get a solid buzzing audio track and no video.

I've tried changing settings, installing Quicktime, restarting Sony Vegas and my PC and still nothing works.

Here are the OBS settings I'm using

Would be amazing if someone could help me with this problem, will require any other information you may need to assist me :)

under advanced option try enabling cfr. If I remember correctly some video editing programs have trouble with mp4's that don't have cfr enabled

Still doing the same thing :(

Would there be something I need to do in Sony Vegas? Changing settings to allow MP4's or downloading something maybe?

Hmm, it might be a vegas setting. do you have a short clip you can share so I can look to see if it will open on my system?

Let me just record a quick clip.

Here's a test clip I recorded, has sound/video on playback in VLC also.

Download here via Mega

I have to sleep now as its 6am, will be able to speak tomorrow.

Hmm ok gimme a few minutes to install sony vegas. I switched over to adobe premier a few months back because my job at the time required it and it looks like I uninstalled Vegas.

By the way which version of vegas are you trying to use it with?

also, you mentioned the mp4 opens in vlc fine, have you tried playing the file in media player? If I remember correctly you would need a standard h264(x264) codec for vegas to support the video correctly

Ok, I tried opening it in Sony Vegas 13 and got the same problem as you. No video and audio all messed up. So it looks like it's something wrong with your recoding settings. Can you post you OBS log so I can check your settings?

I was able to open a local OBS recording I made just now to test it and it showed up fine on Vegas

One thing I noticed is that your recording in High profile level 3.1, under advanced you might want to change to main Level 4.1 and try and see if that solves the problem

Sorry as mentioned up there I had to sleep, I use Sony Vegas 12, how would I go about posting the OBS log?

Tried it in Media Player and I get video but no audio, also tried going from high to main and it still didn't fix it.

Managed to fix the problem, not sure which worked though as I re-added my monitor capture to the sources list and changed the audio from MP3 to AAC under the encoding tab! But whatever it worked :D Thanks for the help dude

Yeah sorry I was kinda out of it last night myself. I should have noticed in the sample video that you sent that it had mp3 audio. MP4 spec requires AAC audio to be compliant, which is most likely why Vegas couldn't open the mp4 correctly.

No problem, I had no idea. In the end is just tried changing things and luckily the first thing I went with fixed it. Recording great, loving the software so far.

Thanks again.
