Question / Help Some help setting up my settings

Hi, I am Rekijan and recently switched over from xsplit to OBS because xsplit just keeps crashing. And I am still trying to get my settings right, but I have limited understanding on how streaming works so I require some help setting up my settings.

Some specs:
CPU: Intel Core i5 750 2.67Ghz
CPU Speed: 2675MHz
RAM: 4GB
Graphics Card: AMD Club3D HD 5850 1GB
Operating System: Win7 64

Download :: 13.9 Mbps 1.7 MB/s // Upload :: 2.7 Mbps 342 kB/s according to http://testmy.net/results @ the default texas server. But if I set it at Amsterdam, the Netherlands (the country where I live in) I get:
Download :: 59.8 Mbps 7.5 MB/s // Upload :: 5.5 Mbps 684 kB/s

Logs are included in the attachments.

http://www.twitch.tv/rekijan/b/409478526 This is a broadcast on my desktop resolution (1920x1080) but like you can see it lags too much. Not just the stream but my game also, only slightly less then the stream. (Log: high res, too much lag).

http://www.twitch.tv/rekijan/b/409492082 This is the broadcast after that, with lower res (resolution downscale: 1. 75 (1096x616)) and as good as no lag. (Log: low res, no lag). But the video is noticably blurrier then the other one.

What I want is the high quality of the high resolution one, but without the lag obviously. But I don't know what settings I can change in order to do that. Bitrate? Or the filter option @video settings under Res downscale? Or something else?

And how do I boost my own mic? Is that desktop boost or mic/aux boost? Or something else?

With your computer specs, I think you can go 720p. I have an i5 as well but your speed is much slower than mine but I believe 720p is doable. Try a bitrate of 2500 and stream to the Amsterdam server. If it continues to lag then drop it to about 2000. The mic/aux boost allows you to boost the audio of your mic by a multiple of whatever you want, I think up to 20. If you're still having problems, reply here with a log file.

Are you using monitor capture?
In case you do, use game and/or windowcapture instead. Monitor capture with aero enabled will cause your stream and game to lag.
I'm not entirely sure if that fixes your 1080p problem, because your i5 isn't the most powerful CPU, but it is worth a try.
I suggest you make 2 scenes:
-Scene 1 for the champion draft (using window capture or montiro capture (make sure Aero is disabled) and
-Scene 2 for ingame using graphics capture.

Then set a hotkey for each scene, so you can easily switch between those 2.

As for the microphone boost, use the mic/aux boost or take a look at the settings in windows itself.

Secretply, I think 5,5mbit upload is enough for 1080p LeagueOfLegends.

What does changing your bitrate do? And how can adjusting it change your performance (for better or worse)? Can someone explain that in somewhat simple terms?

It is already set to Amsterdam servers, at 2800 bitrate.

I would find it very annoying to have to switch to several scenes I think, I am most likely to forget. So I guess I'll just switch to just one scene with only Game Captures. I also have an image set at the bottom which basically says BRB doing some stuff. Could that affect performances?

I disabled Aero (disable aero at startup is now checked), what does that option do? Or better yet what does Aero do to improve (or decrease) performance? Again in somewhat simple terms would be great.

Thanks for the help so far.

Changing bitrate adjusts the uploadbandwith the encoder is trying to use. For example, using CBR with 2800 bitrate, the encoder tries to use 2,8mbits on average. While 3500 bitrate means he tries to use 3,5mbits on average.

Switching scenes isnt really that annoying once you get in the habit of pressing 1 Button every 45 Minutes, while I do sometimes forget to do that myself. The problem with LeagueOfLEgends is tho, that you cant GameCapture the champion draft, only ingame. So without switching scenes, you won't be able to see the draft.

An image should not affect performance at all.

Disabling Aero will force Windows to use the basic Windows7 scheme.
I actually can't explain to you exactly why Aero decreases performance with monitor capture, I just know it does.

I am horribly confused. I have been adjusting my settings like you said and now have the most curious problem.
When I am streaming I had my stream open on my gf's pc next to mine. The stream was laggy but the broadcast is fine:
http://en.twitch.tv/rekijan/b/409889512 (see attachment for log).

Now I am not sure what to do or if my stream is lagging or not. Because live on the pc next to me it seemed to lag but the broadcast (vod) seems fine.

That could have been flash or maybe bad routing. If the VOD is fine, its most likely server sided.
You are still lagging alot of frames, you should consider going to 1.25 resolution downscale, I believe its 864p, and 30FPS with lanczos filter. It should look almost good as 1080p.
