Question / Help [Solved] Intermittent preview (and output) freezing

Suddenly I'm having an issue with the preview window as well as all output (recording and stream) freezing momentarily -- the only thing I can think of that I changed recently was updating OBS Studio.

I'm having no issues with my PC otherwise.

Ryzen 1700x, GTX 980 Ti (updated drivers tonight in attempt to solve this issue).

Is there anything in this log that gives anyone a hint as to what might be going on?

[Edit]: It might be worth noting that during these freezes, the ENTIRE preview window freezes up and stops responding -- can't drag source around, clicking on another source does nothing, etc. But all other window elements are fine.

[Edit 2]: Also important to note that sound continues to be recognized by audio sources during freezes, and the freezes also happen when I'm ONLY previewing (not streaming and not recording)

I've done some tests and here are a few more test results:

  • Downgrading OBS doesn't seem to have any effect
  • Changing all monitors to 60hz has no effect
  • Using a blank scene with only one source has no effect
  • Creating an entirely new scene collection and adding one source gives me no issues

Given that a new completely blank scene collection seems to fix it, what could be causing this? It seems to have happened suddenly, and I didn't add anything new to my scenes. This issue seems to persist across duplicating the collection, so it's definitely something with the collection itself.

I'm going to start going through each scene within the collection and removing things until I see a fix, I suppose, and I'll update here when I find something else.

Change the webcam resolution to something like 640x360 if you're using it for streaming. There's absolutely no reason to go 1080p on the webcam when on an overlay other than being a resource hog.

Actually I just figured out what it was. Apparently I had a text source that was reading from a file that it was having trouble with, so I suppose the freezing was happening whenever it was trying to update the contents of that text source.

Took a while to hunt down!
