Question / Help Software capture source/window capture issue

Hello all. Yesterday I found out about OBS and was thrilled to get it and try it out, as I've been looking for a good replacement to Xsplit that wasn't overly complicated like Flash Media Encoder or other programs.

When I first configured the program to capture my WoW window, it worked like a dream. It was still capturing WoW even when I alt+tabbed to other programs, which is exactly what I wanted (you have to pay a subscription fee for that same functionality from Xsplit, ugh).

Today I wanted to play with it some more, and I started streaming with all the same settings that I used yesterday which worked perfectly, but this time it doesn't seem to want to capture the WoW window only. If I alt+tab you can see the other windows I bring up on the stream. I tried checking all the settings, and when that didn't work, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, as well as restarting my PC. None of these solved the problem, it still behaves like I have it set to capture monitor instead of capture window.

What did I screw up and how do I fix it?

I did a bit of tinkering to find out a little more information about the problem. It seems that deleting the OBS folder in the AppData/Roaming directory fixes the issue. After I deleted the configuration folder and started up OBS again, it captures the window correctly, without showing other windows when I alt+tab. This isn't what I'd call great solution though, as I lose all my configuration, including my stream key for Twitch.tv.

This "fix" doesn't last long though, as when I close OBS and reopen, the problem comes right back and I have to delete my configuration folder and reconfigure all over again every time I start OBS.

hm, strange. you're using window capture? if you have aero enabled with window capture, it shouldn't be able to capture other windows. aero is enabled, right?

I had the checkbox enabled to disable Aero when OBS launches. I'll uncheck that and see if it makes any difference.

...And that did it. With Aero left on, it works without my needing to delete my configuration. Thanks for the assistance!

Yup, if you want Window Capture to only see the specified window, aero needs to be on. The only time Aero needs to be disabled really is if you're using monitor capture, as it can hurt performance a lot :)
