Question / Help So how do i actually see an indication whether I'm recording or not?

So, after hitting the recording button while in game I don't get any indication whether it's recording or not? You know? Like any normal recording software does? With a green/red on/off indicator of some sort in the upper right corner? I can't believe such a basic feature is hidden away in such an absurd manner (if it even exists, after 4-5 hours of searching for an answer to this and looking through every menu in the program, I'm starting to doubt such a basic feature even exists.)

(It is recording, I can see that afterwards, but I have no way of knowing while I'm actually recording.)

There is a start recording button and it changes to STOP recording while recording..Furthermore, there is an indicator next to the button that allows you to stop/pause It may not be the color you like but it's there...

You see the recording state in the OBS status bar and in the OBS status window as long as you don't minimize OBS. If you activate the system tray icon in Settings->General->System Tray, you'll notice a red dot in that icon while recording. However, if the task bar is hidden due to playing some game in fullscreen mode, you will not be able to see this. Unfortunately, there is no overlay that indicates the recording state for fullscreen games. Most useful for this case is a second monitor where you move OBS to.

The red dot is also visible when streaming so if you're recording while streaming seeing the red dot in the tray icon only shows your streaming status.

Thank you for your reply. Ok... that explains it, I just can't believe it, but it explains it.....

It's just incredible to me that this basic feature is missing. Does no one play their games in fullscreen mode or does everyone have two monitors these days? And I'm just recording videos, I'm not streaming. In Bandicam, there's an FPS overlay you can use, so when you're not recording the FPS counter is green, and when you turn on the recording the counter turns red. Very useful and easy. But Bandicam has other issues, so I don't want to use it any more. Oh well... I guess I'm just gonna have to get used to pressing the button on and off and hope for the best.... and also hope that my memory never fails me......

Hi, valid question. I noticed that on your task bar on the right is a little arrow pointing up. When you run OBS and click on that arrow, it will expand to a few background program icons. There is an OBS one too. I dragged it right on the task bar and little icon circle will have red dot when recording, yellow double line when paused and just icon when not in record mode. That tells me when I minimize OBS to do a screen recording for tutorials if I am actually recording.
Hope it helps... :)
