Question / Help Slow / blurry stream - need assistance

Hello all,
I've recently got into streaming some of the MMO's that I play. And, of course I'm using OBS. Now, the problem that i'm having is with the quality of my stream. It seems to be slow and slightly blurry. I believe it's a mistake I've made while configuring the software but, I can't seem to get a fluid / smooth stream no matter what I change. I've looked up numerous guides and still no go.

So, I'm here to see if anyone wouldn't mind helping me pick out the best / ideal settings for my PC configuration. I am aware that I will need to post a log. But, since I'm at work I'll have to add that in later. My PC spec is listed below.

CPU: i7-2600K OC'd @4.6Ghz
GPU: HD 7950 x2 OC'd @1150/1575
RAM: 16GB DDR3 1600Mhz
MOBO: Maximus IV Extreme-Z
HDD: Samsung Spinpoint / WD Caviar Black Raid 0 & Samsung 830 SSD

Download: 55Mbps Upload: 11Mbps - Speedtest.net
Download: 38Mbps Upload: 7Mbps - Testmy.net

I appreciate any and all advice.

Well, just to rule out any odd settings you may indeed have set yourself... let's just start out by wiping the slate clean (after you post that log):
  • Click Start
  • Click Run
  • Type %AppData%\OBS
  • Empty that folder
  • Start OBS, it will have reset completely.
Now, I'm going to assume you're playing these MMOs in 1080p?

Settings -> Encode -> Enable CBR, Enable CDR Padding (should be enabled by default anyhow), no custom buffer size, Max Bitrate: 2750
Settings -> Broadcast Settings -> Have fun filling this one out... ;)
Settings -> Video -> Resolution: 1920x1080 -> Resolution Downscale: 1.50 (720p), using the Lanczos filter -> FPS: 60
Settings -> Advanced -> Process Priority Class: Above Normal -> Custom x264 Encoder Settings -> opencl=true

Try those settings and see if everything looks better.

Given the fact you're on a CrossFireX (by the way, you have one beast of a system, can I have it?) be ready for some... surprises. SLI/CrossFireX do not necessarily work as well as you might expect. You may end up being forced to run off 1 GPU while streaming. Which shouldn't be an issue, my i5 760 + single HD 6870 had no trouble whatsoever streaming WoW in 720p@60 FPS.

Only GW2 really poses a challenge to my system but even that one should be a walk in the park for your system.

If however you do have to switch to 1 GPU and notice your ingame FPS suffering a little, just tone down a bit on the most heavy settings in-game. Things like Physics, Real Time and/or Indirect Shadows, Particle Effects all are quite heavy on performance and do not really matter for a stream anyhow. Texture Quality, Resolution and Framerate are typically the 3 most important elements to an attractive stream.

Thanks for the info! I've read up a bit on the issues that occur with Sli/CFX and streaming. I figured, once I can get the stream to look half decent i'd then play around with CFX.

Not to jack this thread, but are there system requirements for streaming? I am trying to do RTMP streaming from a laptop and when I run obs while streaming, I get a 'HIGH ENCODING' error in the status bar at the bottom, and the RTMP stream is extremely laggy, choppy, and looks like about 420p resolution. Is this because of the laptop, or another underlying problem? I have a 100mbit upload, and the rtmp server is located on a 100gigabit backbone

i have been using obs and when i start opening obs and a browser, my speed drops form a 2.04 Ghz to a 0.50 Ghz in a matter of seconds; Also i want to boost up my stream quality so i run on 3500 bitrate and my upload speed is a 88,57 mbps is that ok or should it be changed?
