Question / Help Slideshow. Change slide before transition

Hey guys I hope you can help me with this:

-I have to broadcast a camera + a slideshow (powerpoint slides). Typical presentation "a guy and his deck".
-Sometimes I show the subject, sometimes the deck, and maybe sometimes PnP.
-I exported each slide of the powerpoint as a single JPEG, all of them into a single folder.
-In OBS I created a slideshow and assigned the folder with the slides as the source.
-I defined the hot cues and I see I can change the slides, next and previous included.
-Here the issue: I can pass the slides only when the scene is live/ on air. When the scene containing the slideshow is not live the hot cues doesn't seem to work.

Same thing here, I want to be able to change slides before going on air. Sometimes the speaker answers questions and needs to revert back to some previous slides.
 
I am so surprised this is still not a thing - I have seen the same issue in multiple posts and no solution. It makes absolutely no sense to prevent the slide transitions from working when the slides are previewed as opposed to when they are live. Typical use would be live on video, transition slide to next suitable slide, then go live with it, then go back to video, then transition to next slide ready for the next cue.
