Single PC-setup: Capture Card Conundrum

Hello,

I am a but a humble guy who records footage, I'm not a streamer. I have a question regarding the use of a capture card on PC.

- I have ONE PC. Just the one; I have no space to place a second one.
- I have ONE monitor. Just the one; I have no space to place a second one.
- The monitor that I do have (an X27 Predator) is capable of displaying HDR. I like HDR. HDR is nice.
- OBS is not capable of recording HDR footage and tonemapping it to SDR.
- I had previously bought a capture card (Elgato HD60 S+) -- this card, allegedly, has onboard tonemapping for HDR.
- I am a PC-gamer, however, once the Playstation 5 starts existing again, I plan to purchase one.

What I want: I would like to record PC gameplay as I play in HDR and have it tonemap my footage to SDR.

I have read various responses and discoveries online, about using multiple PC setups, yes or no. Most stories pertained streaming, not simply recording.
I've read lots of ambiguous statements of being able to use a capture card for a "single PC setup".... I don't know what's what anymore (let alone what's true)

What I have tried is hook up my Capture card to my PC (Monitor > HDMI > C-Card < 2nd HDMI < GPU), and while it DOES appear as a second display, it only sort of works when using W10's defacto 'Extend displays' option. This extends the HDMI space beyond the edge of my monitor (via OBS I could drag a window off-screen and see it appear on my "HDMI screen", but it's still just one monitor. )
When I change the setting to 'duplicate monitors' W10's HDR option -- which was initially turned on -- disappears (this allegedly has to do with W10 not liking cloning an HDR signal, or it allegedly also has something to do with the fact that I'm using both Displayport (main) and now also HDMI in tandem. ...Again, stories aplenty, but no clear answers for my particular wants.

As such figured I'd ask the question myself at the place where I think others with similar questions might gather:

Is there a way for me, in my current setup, to record PC game footage in HDR and have it tonemap to SDR so I can enjoy my games to the fullest, whilst also continuing getting joy out of recording (and editing) said games? And if the current card I own does not cut it, what would I need (to do) instead? (I've read some things about AverMedia products; but not all of them support the new line of game consoles...?)

Thank you for your time and potential suggestions in advance.
