Question / Help Showing Skype on Livestream

Seeing that I don't have a webcam at the moment (coming on tuesday) I have been trying to show a video call to myself on the live stream. Just the simple image that you can see in the corner when I play WoW/other games. How do I add a skype video call and make it visible? I can't seem to even find how to broadcast it.

How though, I'm sorry but I am brand new to OBS, I have always used Xsplit. I can't figure out how to broadcast just the video call while playing wow.

Is your game running fullscreen? If so, you'd need a second monitor.

Then you just add a software capture source by right clicking the sources list and select the Skype window

I'm running wow in Windowed (Fullscreen), so is there a way to bring the Skype video in front of the WoW, sort of overlaying it. I do have my laptop, could I somehow link the two broadcasts to show the skype via my laptop or?

Yeah, just do as I said to add a Software Capture, choose Window Capture and then the Skype window. Then you can do a sub region of it for a specific area and position it wherever (Click Edit Scene to unlock things for moving and resizing)

So when I do Window Capture and click on Skype window will that just show Skype, or will it include WoW as well? Right now I have the "Main" scene which is just my whole screen, can I add it to that or do I have to create a new capture?

If you do a window capture on skype, and you have aero on, it will only capture the skype window. However, you need to make sure the window is not minimized, or the window won't update. Other than that, that should be all you need to do

I've run into a problem, I have the skype window selected, but when I tab into the game the video doesnt show up, it is just a magnified area of where the skype video would be. I cant figure out how to show the actual video call in game. Sorry for all the questions, I suck at this stuff

When I select the skype window in the drop down menu and selects the area that skype is in, so when I dont have Skype as the main window that I am on it shows that position on whatever page im on. So if I'm on WoW it shows a magnified view of the top right corner of my screen in wow since that is where my Skype page is positioned. But it doesnt show up unless its my main window.

Sounds like you have Aero disabled. For Window Capture to only show the selected window, Aero needs to be on.

Hm, I think I would have to see what you mean to understand.

I just messed around with window capture and it looks like OBS will capture whatever is on top of the region the target window occupies. So if you're on a single monitor and playing a game that occupies the entire screen, any subsequent window capture will just re-capture that region of the game-- it isn't limited to ONLY show the content of the window you selected. Hopefully I explained that coherently.

If you want to layer different windows with your stream overlay, I think you need to use completely separate regions (i.e. down-size your WoW window and capture that part of your monitor, use the extra space for Skype and capture that separately, layer it on top of WoW. Tried to illustrate here: http://i.imgur.com/ZB4pO.png ). This is basically what people are doing with a two-monitor setup, except they just capture the entirety of the first screen so they don't have to worry about down-sizing the game window, and put all the extra stuff on the second monitor and capture from there.

This is only the case if you have Aero turned off, which I mentioned earlier. For OBS to capture a window and ONLY that window, Aero needs to be ON. If it's off or you're using windows classic theme, it won't work

Wow, I suck. I completely misread your post-- sorry. Disregard my post above!

I'm off to a bad start haha
