Question / Help Should I use my CPU or GPU to stream?

I have an intel i7 8700 cpu with 16gb RAM, and i have a GTX1060 gfx card. Should I stream from the CPU or the GPU. My main worry is stress. Which would be less stressful for the pc if I want to stream at 720p 60fps

Hello, sorry for a seemingly “late” reply, but i can safely say that with a 6-core/12-thread processor you can most definetly use the x264 encoding option without “stress” obviously the NVENC will use almost no stress but with the cpu you have you can easily manage the veryfast preset without even reaching 3/4ths of the cpu’s potential(this ofcourse depends on the game). but for the quality tradeoff i would definetly use x264 especially at 720p/60fps streaming. However, if u are worried your pc will “stress out” for whatever reason test both, what ever you feel most confortable with roll with it

You are amazing! Greatly appreciate you taking the time to help.

u use it to encode, GPU is always under some sort of extra load, so use your X264 encoder to take any load off the GPU since your CPU will handle it with a breeze.
you might still get GPU bottleneck from demanding games, so OBS may get drops and you will have to stream in 30fps
