Question / Help Shaky video feed when switching between scenes

I recently made the switch from XSplit to OBS and am enjoying it so far. I was previously using AmaRecTV 2.20c, but was having some bad audio distortion issues. I read that AmaRecTV 2.10 fixed the issue, so I am now using version 2.10b. The audio distortion seems to be fixed now, but I'm having an issue with the video quality now. When I switch between scenes in OBS, sometimes an issue will occur where the video starts shaking around. The video looks completely fine in AmaRec, so I think the issue is with OBS.

I can fix the issue by turning the game feed on and off a few times, but I'm looking for a way to prevent the issue from occurring at all. Here are my stream specs:

Try adding the source as a global source, so that it doesn't have to reload every time you switch scenes.

Why would you be using two older versions of AmaRecTV (each with their own set of problems) instead of the most recent one? 2.31 should be available from both the Japanese and the English page by now.

Also, if you are already doing deinterlacing in AmaRec itself, make sure that your deinterlacing is set to "None" in OBS, otherwise selecting the "wrong" field order can result in behavior like that in your video.

I have deinterlacing set to "None" in OBS, thanks for the tip though!

You say "From the original post", but you don't mention AmaRecTV 2.31 (which is the newest version on the English page, 3.00c is the newest one on the Japanese page) anywhere.

2.20c is quite outdated, and had frame rate issues over the DirectShow Live passthrough (which are most likely present in 2.10b as well).

My apologies, I did neglect to mention that I used AmaRecTV 2.31. I tried v2.31 before and it had the same issues with audio distortion. If I notice frame rate issues with AmaRecTV 2.10b, I guess I'll switch back to 2.31 and deal with the audio distortion again.

Actually, do you know if there's any way to correct the audio distortion present in version 2.31? Would be nice if I could do that rather than use outdated versions to correct it.

Ah, I just realized that you're using a Dazzle. I haven't used the Dazzle in AmaRecTV that much, but unfortunately I believe that the audio distortion is an issue with the device itself. While there is a new version of AmaRecTV out now (3.00c), I'm not sure if that would help either.

I do believe that just like when using the device directly in OBS, AmaRecTV 2.10b will drift out of sync after X amount of time due to the device failing to present audio samples. The Dazzle is unfortunately plagued by issues, both with the audio and the drivers, and while there are some USB SD capture devices that work better, they're usually not in that price range.

That's strange. The audio seems fine in 2.10b, but is distorted in 2.20c and 2.31. My Dazzle is an older model, purchased around August 2010. I'm not sure if the newer releases are any better. Do you have any suggestions for some quality, affordable SD capture cards? Maybe I'll just deal with the issues for the time being, and invest in a better capture device when I feel it's necessary. Thank you for the insight, though!

You might be able to get around this by adding the Dazzle directly in OBS and enabling some amount of buffering, though you would be unable to use OBS as a "monitor" to play the game on. (Perhaps you have a splitter? Not sure how common s-video splitters are.)

Terratec has a number of Grabster capture devices which are very nice, though that's a European manufacturer, and I'm not quite sure what their American counterpart is called. (In case you live in the US.)

I tried adding the Dazzle directly in OBS, and most of the time no sound comes through unless I change the settings every single time I load the source. I've decided to stick with capturing from AmaRecTV, and I'll just deal with the distortion issues. In the future, maybe I'll keep my eye out for a good deal on a better capture device.

P.S. Also, I do have a splitter for composite and S-Video. Not sure if that changes anything.
