I'm an OBS Newbie: My monitor is a Samsung 16:9 4K TV and my PC is 4K. Within Settings / Video, which (a) Base (Canvas) Resolution (either 3840x2160 or 1920x1080) and (b) Output (Scaled) Resolution should I use to record either: (i) a streaming 3840x2160 resolution video, or (ii) a streaming 1920x1080 resolution video?

Rule of thumb: set the base (canvas) to the resolution of the thing you want to capture and stream (usually a game, or your Windows desktop), and set the output resolution to the resolution you want your stream in.
Common streaming resolutions are 1280x720 (720p) and 1920x1080 (1080p). Nobody streams 4k, because almost no internet connection is fast enough for the required bandwidth.

Thank you for your VERY fast response. I suspected that that your base and output response would be as you stated, but I just wanted to make sure as a newbie. Regarding the streaming resolution, my PC build is for video entertainment and a large video library and as such I have ZERO problems streaming 4k video files in either H.265 or H.264, but I understand your game streaming recommendation. HOWEVER, I do have another question: Initially I was able to record both the audio and visual aspects of both 1080p and 2160p YouTube videos perfectly, but after a few short test videos, the recordings were either audio OR visual, but NOT both audio and visual combined in the video files - do you have any recommendations for the review of my settings parameters please?

I am using a cannon xf100 camera connected to a roland vr-3ex video mixer. I then output via usb to OBS.
What should all of my resolution settings be at? Input too, I'm kinda lost
