Question / Help Settings help, strangly overworked CPU

Hi.
I have a 10Mbit upload, with a i7-920 CPU, 6gig RAM, GTX 550 graphic.

Still for some reason while having DotA running (normally around 15-20% cpu usage), then starting my stream CPU usage spikes up to 70-100%, making the entire PC lagg (sound, motions etc)

I have really no idea what's the problem and how to fix it, atm settings in OBS are:

Quality: 10
Max bitrate: 3000
Buffer size: 6000

Base resolution 1920x1080, downscaled to 1280x720
FPS: !!_20_!!
Disable aero on startup: On

Multithreaded Optimizations: On

Worth mentioning is the stream works when downscaling to 480, but still might spike some times.
Surely my PC should be able to handle this?

Have you tried lowering your settings. Just try Quality 8, Bitrate/buffer 2000/2000 Because you broadcast in 720p so high bitrate will not really benefit you.
Also, when you lagging, look at the task manager to see which process uses CPU the most. You may want to post your log file so people can determine what your problem is.

Hmm, not entirely sure. Very strange. Everything seems fine in the app, I don't see anything unusual, and your frame draw times are perfectly acceptable, don't notice any particular lag or anything

Well as i said, my CPU spikes up to 80-100%, wich for obvious reasons is unacceptable to play in.
I spoke to some of my friends about it where they said it might be that the software doesn't support multiple cores, but afaik OBS seems to do this, right?

It most definitely supports multiple cores. I'm not entirely sure what's going on.. I've actually never heard of this happening to anyone else unfortunately, so I don't quite know.

Well, just a thought. Have u tried to clean dust from your PC? Also, can you measure the temperature when you're playing and broadcasting.
