Question / Help Settings for OBS

So I'm kind of a starter when it comes to the settings of OBS. I really don't know or understand how anything actually works, I've made couple of videos just fooling around in games with my friends and that kinda stuff but I never really looked in to the settings tab to just make the videos look better. I'd say i have a good PC for gaming and it's what I mainly do on my PC, but I think that it's powerful enough to record with aswell, just really don't know how. All the videos that i have made are sometimes pretty laggy and really low quality when something happens on the screen (explosions, really grassy areas, many buildings at once etc.), lets just say the video turns unwatchable and I want it to be watchable :D.

Here are the specs for my PC:
CPU: Intel Core i7 7700K @ 4.20GHz
RAM: 12.0GB
MOBO: BIOSTAR Group TB250-BTC PRO (U3E1)
GPU: AMD Radeon RX Vega 56 8GB
OS: Windows 10

If someone here could help me configure the settings for OBS it would be great and if there is anything that I need to be more specific about then just tell me.

Use Tools->Auto Configuration Wizard. This will test the performance of your PC and recommend settings tailored for it.

Oh, didn't know something like that even existed. But what type of capture should I use, Display Capture or Game Capture, or even something else?

Game capture is the best. Use it if it works for the app you want to capture. If not, then window. If not that, then display.
